GINO SARFATTI

Gino Sarfatti was a famous italian designer born in Venice in 1912. He is considered as the first big designer in the lighting industry. After graduating in Aeronautical Engineering he founded “Arteluce” with some important members of the Milan’s society in 1939 ,becoming the General Manager. Since that period he has produced more than 600 lamps. The attention and the search for innovative materials, production techniques and stage effects are the basis of his works. Gino Sarfatti has won many international prices, such as the prestigious “Compasso d’Oro ADI” in 1954 and in 1955, thanks to the creation of the table-lamp mod. 559 and the decomposable lamp mod. 1055. His most famous creation is the Lamp 2097, which today is produced by one of the most important brand in the lighting industry, FLOS. Arteluce collaborated also with great Italian designers such as Franco Albini, Gianfranco Frattini and Marco Zanuso. In 1974 Arteluce has been acquired by Flos.
